By Nathan Dale, Management Committee About 35 Primary Club cricketers – current and past – came together at Tattersalls on Thursday 22nd August for cocktails and canapes to watch the first session of play from Headingley Leeds, the 3rd Ashes Test Match. Special guests included Brett Sprigg from ABC Grandstand and another recently appointed Primary Club Ambassador, Matt De Groot from Nova 96.9. Australia had won the 1st Test convincingly by 251 runs, including two big tons by Steve Smith and Nathan Lyons’ 6 for 49 on the last day. The 2nd Test at Lord’s petered out to a draw, with Smith again showing good form before being replaced by Marnus Labuschagne under the new concussion replacement law. Ben Stokes displayed some of the power and patience that would play a big part in the result of the 3rd Test. So, in their ‘fireside chat’, Brett and Matt had open slather on how this 3rd Test was going to play out, with Aussie batsmen and bowlers all showing promise for the remaining Tests. Especially Pat Cummins’ 13 wickets after just 2 games. Little did we expect a 2-all series result; a series which could have been 3-1 to Australia or even better.
