Sydney Test Breakfast Overview

The Primary Club of Australia held our annual Sydney Test Match Breakfast at the SFS/Allianz Stadium on Day 1 of the Pakistan Test, 3rd January 2024, with over 320 Members and Guests in attendance. Highlights were (a) a panel discussion with Danyal Rasool (ESPNcricinfo), Ed Cowan and Alex Blackwell, and (b) the celebration of Jim Maxwell's 50 years at the ABC!


At a glance

  • Brett Sprigg (ABC) chaired the aforementioned panel who tackled some of the hard questions, including the future of Test Cricket around the world.
  • Over $23,000 was raised to cover two project commitments at Bear Cottage Manly and Ocean Heroes (surfing for kids on the spectrum).
  • 32 guests took up Matt’s 'on the spot' offer of a membership sign-on fee of $25.

Highlights included:

  • Welcome by our Patron and Twelfth Mark Taylor AM, who recognised some special people in the audience – Life Member Daphne Benaud, the late Ken Archer’s table of family and friends, and Jennfer Campbell (Bankstown DCC volunteer) and her two sons.
  • A couple of lucky Members, the Walsh brothers, winning the visit to the ABC Commentary Booth that afternoon and meeting Alison Mitchell and Glenn McGrath.
  • Other prizes included wine tasting at Chateau Tanunda at The Rocks, a box of seats at a Sydney FC home game, and ‘Warne Worn’ books signed by Mark Taylor and Mike Coward.
  • Finally, about 10am we all trudged over to the SCG to settle comfortably in our seats for what was indeed an entertaining 1st Day’s play, with 109 PCA members choosing to purchase seats in our ‘A Reserve block’ in the Churchill Stand.
